Comedy with a Punch
by Ann Gass
THE Falcon Players romped their way happily through Frank Vickery's comedy Trivial Pursuits at Stanford Hall Theatre last week.
The excellent set, designed by Bill Pritchard and built by members of the company, showed a typical suburban garden complete with extension and patio that was instantly recognised by those in the almost full house. Instantly recognisable too, were the problems experienced by those rash enough to host barbecues!
The Falcon Players proved themselves more than able to entertain their audience. From the opening scene, with Yvonne Marshall as Roz working hard at charades, to Roy Emmett's amazing finale as Teddy playing Sweet Charity, we were given a good time.
But Teddy, together with Janet Holmes Joyce, reallt stole the show!
With their mobile facial expressions, joie de vivre and just the right amount of over-the-top dramatic flourish, all eyes were drawn to them whenever they were on stage, which was quite often. Their Wanting You duet was superb!
Good performances were given by Chris Marlow as Derek, the boring husband which turned into an extremely funny drunk, and by Patricia Quilter as Mona, who more than held her own against a truculent Teddy.
Special mention must be made of organist, Stan Boneham, who played before the start of the performance and during the interval to the great delight of the audience.
In all, thank you Falcon Players for a very enjoyable night out.
